VIRTUAL REALITY APPLICATIONS
Virtual reality (VR) is a technology which allows the user to interact with a computer simulated medium, through HMD (Head Mounted Display) or via stereoscopic projection systems such as CAVE, to experience a world which has no physical shape and is not real. Some media include additional sensory information, for instance audio, tactile-used by haptic systems in medical applications and games – known as force feedback. User interaction with the virtual medium is achieved with the help of standard devices such as the mouse, keyboard, multimodal devices (wired glove, – boom arm – omnidirectional treadmill, Leap motion or Nimble VR).
The rapid evolution of hardware technology in the last few years, especially in the field of gaming, made it possible to reproduce highly complex 3D multi-user virtual spaces. Its uses far transcend the realm of entertainment and has become a part of modern technological civilization.
